If you’ve seen the previous videos, we have established that no matter what stage of pregnancy, the entity instead of the womb is a living human being. But does this make it a human person?
You may have heard this objection to the rights of the unborn as many have begun to buy into the idea that human beings are not necessarily human persons. This means that being a biological human no longer counts, instead you must be given personhood status in order to qualify for human rights.
This is incredibly dangerous ground as it not only seeks to exclude humans in the womb from rights, but whatever arbitrary criteria is used to define personhood, other groups of humans are inevitably discriminated against as well.
For example, it is often argued that there must be a certain level of self-awareness and cognitive function to be considered a person. But this means that you can be a person one day and then if you’re hit by a car the next and find yourself in a coma, you are merely a human – no longer a person with rights.
In the next video we will look at the SLED acronym to see the common areas that pro-abortion choice advocates use to argue that the unborn are not people. We will highlight the flaws in these arguments and show that the pro-life position is actually far more inclusive than the pro-choice one – not discriminating between human life based on certain abilities or properties.
