The Big Bang model that describes the evolution of the universe from its inception until now has become “the standard model” for the origin of the universe. The first half of the presentation describes the historical development of the ideas, how we arrived at the current model and the astronomical observations on which it rests.

The James Web Space Telescope is designed to peer back into the past recesses of the universe in the belief that it would confirm the predictions of the Big Bang model. The second half of the talk describes some of the latest findings and the extent to which they confirm the model.
