The term “woke” has risen to prominence recently to describe all manner of social justice causes, including LGBTQIA+ issues, gender-affirmation & preferred pronouns, modern
feminism, body positivity, anti-ableism, and even climate change. A dictionary definition of “woke” is: To be “alert to injustice in society, especially racism.” In addition, the dictionary
offers the descriptive statement, “We need to stay angry, and stay woke.”
If all this does not rest well with you, you have good reason to be disturbed. For example, the Bible advocates a very different approach to moral reform when it says the anger of man
does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:20). May we seek the peace of God that passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
